Heart disease is one of the country's biggest killers, claiming more than 66,000 lives per year. There is data to suggest that there may be more people dying prematurely from cardiovascular disease in the Vale of York than in other similar areas of the country.
This is why one of the NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group's main priorities is to reduce the number of deaths cause by heart attack and stroke.
The Vale of York's Healthy Hearts initiative brings local GPs and hospital specialists together to help prevent people having a heart attack or stroke.
